I am interested in the process of crossing the river. When the boat crosses the river from one side of the bank to the other bank, it always arouse my imagination. Like Gaston Bachelard said: "Only a very disturbed mind will be truly confused by the phantom of the river." When I’m in the cabin, I like to stand by the window. When the edge of the boat open the water, the water ripples and splashes, and then the river will gradually return to calm. I feel that this space seems endless, and the cabin here seems to be a time-space machine, taking me through the time-space tunnel.
Besides, people wait a boat, and then the boat carry people to transfer. Finally, different people reach different sites due to different tickets. The process like “Stop, transfer, stop and transfer”. The journey on the ship even though I think of the journey of our life. Probably, we will be aware of that when we gain something, we also will lose something. For example, many overseas students get a chance to study and live in a foreign country, but some of them will suffer from homesick.
The main shooting scene of this work is inside the cabin. There is no director and actors in advance. Instead, I enter the public space for direct shooting. My video work style is more like a hunter waiting for the prey, waiting for the subject to enter my shot.
